Shut down the computer

This page was last updated on July 18, 2009.

  • From the Run box or a terminal window:
  • sudo shutdown -h now
  • From anywhere:
  • Ctrl Alt Del
  • From a remote computer:
    1. Telnet to the hung computer over the network if the hung computer is running a telnet server.
    2. Type any of these three commands to shut down and reboot the computer:
      sudo halt

      Or:

      sudo reboot

      Or:

      sudo init 6

Obligatory Happy Ending
