Multiple TTY Session Cheat Sheet
TERMINAL SESSION | |
Open the TTY session | <Ctrl><Alt><F1> through <Ctrl><Alt><F6> |
Log in to the TTY session | Enter user name & password. |
Use the TTY session | Use the terminal normally. |
Log out of the TTY session | exit |
Close the TTY session | <Ctrl><Alt><F7> |
GUI SESSION | |
Open the TTY session | <Ctrl><Alt><F1> through <Ctrl><Alt><F6> |
Log in to the TTY session | Enter user name & password. |
Start the GUI | startx |
Use the GUI | Use the GUI normally. |
Log out of the GUI | Use the GUI menu to log out (not shut down). |
Log out of the TTY session | exit |
Close the TTY session | <Ctrl><Alt><F7> |
MANAGE SESSIONS | |
View TTY sessions | w |
Display the current TTY session | tty |
Go to a new TTY session | <Ctrl><Alt><F1> through <Ctrl><Alt><F6> |
Go to the default TTY session | <Ctrl><Alt><F7> |
Obligatory Happy Ending
