Replace Dolphin with Konqueror

This page was last updated on July 18, 2009.

This document shows how to make Konqueror the dfault file manager in the Kubuntu releases that come with Dolphin. These instructions will not work in KDE 4!

  1. Press the Alt and F2 keys at the same time or open the KMenu and choose Run Command…
  2. Type kcontrol in the box and press the Enter key to open the KDE Control Center.
  3. Left-click KDE Components in the left pane of the window.
  4. Left-click File Associations in the left pane of the window.
  5. Left-click the + next to inode in the right pane of the window.
  6. Left-click directory from the selection of choices beneath the inode entry.
  7. Left-click Konqueror in the Application Preference Order section on the far right side of the window.
  8. Left-click the Move Up button to move Konqueror to the top of the list.
  9. Left-click system_directory from the selection of choices beneath inode in the center pane of the window.
  10. Left-click Konqueror in the Application Preference Order section on the right side of the window.
  11. Left-click the Move Up button to move Konqueror to the top of the list.
  12. Left-click the Apply button in the bottom right corner of the window.
  13. Close KDE Control Center.

Obligatory Happy Ending

And they all lived happily ever after. The end.
